Trapped people in Korle Bu elevator rescued

Several people who were trapped inside an elevator at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Friday evening due to a power outage have been rescued.

The people including patients, staff and visitors were trapped in the elevator at the Medical ward for over 30 minutes before they were rescued.

An eyewitness who spoke to Starr News stated that one person passed out before they were finally removed from the elevator by staff of the hospital.

The eyewitness earlier reported that the frightened people kept banging on the door of the elevator amid shouts for help.

Starr News gathered that the stand-by generator at the biggest hospital in the country had also broken down making rescue efforts difficult.

“I have been here for over 30 minutes now and no one is here to help rescue them. I haven’t seen anybody here to help. As at now I hear the plant is also down so until the power comes back they will be in the lift,” the eyewitness narrated.
