Herbalist remanded for fraud

Tema, Aug 1, GNA- The Tema circuit court ‘A’ has remanded a herbalist who collected a total of 14.2 million cedis under the pretext of renting rooms for three workers at Community three. Thomas Kojo Ampem, and one other at large pleaded not guilty and will reappear on August 17, 2004. Ampem who had jumped police bail for six months was remanded because it was the surety who after being pressurised by the court brought him to the court.

Police Inspector Sarah Aggrey Acquah told the court that in December 2002, the accused and one other now at large collected 5.6 million cedis from Mr Amos Julian, 2.6 million cedis from Miss Lydia Aryeeh and 6 million cedis from Mr William Agbakpa under the pretext of renting them rooms at Community three. She said the complainants failed to get the rooms, and after all efforts to retrieve their monies had failed, the complainants reported the matter to the Community two police.
