Court jails labourer for stealing sheep

Kuntanase (Ash), July 29, GNA – The Kuntanase Magistrate Court on Thursday sentenced a 26-year-old labourer of Addai Cutlass Factory at Jachie to two years imprisonment for stealing four sheep. Alex Acheampong pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Thomas Bossman Tuffour told the court that on July 7, this year, Madam Doris Addai, 47, whose stepson is the accused, woke up at dawn to discover that four of her sheep had been stolen from the pen.

He said Madam Addai started investigations and following a tip-off, the case was reported to the Jachie police and Acheampong was arrested.

Inspector Tuffour said during interrogation he told the Police that it was one Akua Akyaa now on the run, who provided a vehicle for carrying the sheep for sale.

He said Acheampong told the Police that later in the day, Akua Akyaa brought him 300,000 cedis being the proceeds from the sale and he took 100,000 cedis while Akyaa took 200,000 cedis.

Following these disclosures the accused was charged with the offence.
