Police warn public about car snatching syndicate

Police have warned members of the public to be wary of a car stealing syndicate robbing commercial drivers, particularly taxi drivers of their vehicles.

A release issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service and signed by ASP, Effia Tenge said drivers using their vehicles for commercial purposes should be extra vigilante and desist from accepting consumable items in the form of food and drinks from strangers who hire their services.

“The Police has observed that victims of this new trend are usually hired by a member of the syndicate at good offers and sedated halfway through the journey after being offered water or Energy drink. The targeted driver is then hauled from the cab and the vehicle driven away,” the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the public have been urged to report suspicious characters to the Police on hotline 191 and MTN/Vodafone Toll Free 18555.
