GTP security men granted 500 million cedis bail

Tema, July 28, GNA – The Tema Circuit Court ‘A’ has granted 500 million cedis bail each with a surety to six security officers of Elite Protection Services attached to the Ghana Textile Printing (GTP) for stealing 591 pieces of wax prints valued at 250 million cedis. The security officers who pleaded not guilty were James Amowudah, Prince Yarboi, Jonathan Azi, Stephen Oddom, Benjamin Ampadu and Emmanuel Quanin, and will re-appear on August 3, 2004.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court that, on September 6, 2003, 591 pieces of wax prints valued at 250 million cedis were detected missing from the GTP’s warehouse and a report was made to the police.

He said investigations led to the discovery of some of the missing prints at Tamale and the owners told police their source of supply. The prosecutor said Christopher Nyame, (now at large) a factory hand, stole the keys to the warehouse, made a duplicate and later conspired with others to steal the prints.
