The National Youth Authority(NYA) says it is making frantic efforts in collaboration with the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies(MMDAs) to find jobs for angry NPP youth.
This the authority believes will help rein in the overwhelming vandalism by the youth of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) who are demanding jobs from the party’s leadership.
The NPP youth groups have since January ramped up attacks on state installations and other government agencies.
At least 20 of separate violent cases perpetrated by loyalists of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) have been recorded since the party won political power in 2016.
Several Civil Society Groups have called on government to act decisively against the escalating mayhem and disturbances taking a centre stage in Ghanaian politics.
Most argue the situation may get out of hands, especially when culprits involved in such acts are left off the hook, or are treated with kid gloves by the Police and the Judiciary after their arrests.
But the Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, Emmanuel Asigri, addressing a Press conference Tuesday, October, 31, 2017 said the authority’s intervention to find the rampaging youth of the party some jobs could resolve the increasing spate of vigilantism gaining root under the NPP government.
“It’s not an Akufo-Addo demographic, It’s not an NPP demographic, It’s a Ghanaian demographic requiring the impassioned contribution from all those who lead. The government’s plan to create jobs is a private sector plan. A private sector plan is an entrepreneurship plan. There is 100 million dollars with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan for any ordinary young Ghanaian. For this year entering into next year alone, we are targeting to have 70000 young people put on the various modules of the YEA. We have partnered with the District Assemblies with one of our modules where we are going to train about 500 young people who will maintain and man streetlights in our towns across the country. It is on this note that we urge the young people causing disturbances and public tension at Youth Employment Agency offices, School Feeding facilities, NADMO and District Assembly offices to read the game instead of invading the pitch, seize the moment instead of seizing office keys, and unlock their potentials instead of locking padlocks.”
