Rioting NPP Karaga Chair, 3 others granted bail

Police in the Northern Region have granted bail to the Karaga Constituency Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Tahiru Zakari, and three others who were picked up in connection with the recent riots by some youth at the offices of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.

Tahiru Zakari, together with Baba Ali Osman, Mohammed Alhassan and Abdullai Ziblim, were arrested on Friday, 27 October and later granted police inquiry bail after being charged with rioting.

The police arrested them as they returned to Karaga from the regional capital, Tamale, as they failed to honour police invitation after Karaga District Chief Executive, Alhassan Yabdow, cited them as those fomenting trouble in the area.

They were reported to have led some angry party youth on Wednesday to take over the DCE’s office, locked him out and threatened to visit mayhem on him after accusing him of working against their interest.
