Accra, July 26, GNA – The Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) on Monday expressed its displeasure at the slow pace at which the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports was handling their grievances.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by John Elton Botchway Jnr, National Press and Information Officer of GNUPS, said seven weeks after the students left their classrooms to embark on an indefinite sit down strike to press home their demand for ‘proper job placement’, for Higher National Diploma (HND) holders nothing has been done to resolve the impasse.
He said even though the National Accreditation Board (NAB) was asked to come out with a clear distinction between a first degree, HND and the two-year University Diploma and yet till date nothing had been heard from the Board.
The statement said the students would like to reiterate that until a solution was found polytechnic education should be terminated in the country.
The statement asked the Council Management and staff of Koforidua Polytechnic to reconsider their decision to hold their congregation on Saturday July 31.
The statement urged all students to remain calm and to contact their various Student Representative Councils periodically.
