PPAG donates medical items to Kumasi Central Prisons

Kumasi, July 21, GNA – The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) on Tuesday presented assorted drugs and health equipment valued at eight million cedis to the Kumasi Central Prisons for distribution to the male and female infirmaries.

The items include syringes and needles, weighing scales, disinfectants, vitamin ‘b’ complex, multivites, chloroquine, antibiotics, bandages and gentian violet.

Mrs Elsie Ayeh, Zonal Manager of the PPAG, said the donation was part of the Association’s contribution towards making health care services more accessible to the inmates.

She said the PPAG had assigned a medical doctor to ailing prisoners.

Mrs Ayeh said series of peer education training programmes would be oranised for Prison officers and inmates on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) to equip them with information and knowledge on their sexuality.

She explained, “Our fight against HIV/AIDS, will yield little results if we ignore the inmates.”

Chief Superintendent of Prisons, Mrs Josephine Fredua-Agyemang, officer in-charge of the female prison unit lauded the commitment of the PPAG, towards ensuring good health for the inmates.
