Labourer jailed 18 months for attempted stealing

Sekondi, July 20, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Monday sentenced Sheidu Fuseini, a labourer to 18 months in imprisonment in hard labour for exchanging unused phone cards with used ones. The accused pleaded guilty to attempted stealing.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor, said at about 18:40 hours on July 15 this year, the accused who had no permanent place of abode, bought three pieces of phone cards at Chapel Hill in Takoradi. He said the accused cleverly exchanged the phone cards with used ones and told the vendor that the cards she gave him were used ones. Chief Inspector Hedidor said Nketiah examined the cards and detected that they were different from the ones she sold to the accused.

He said Ms Nketiah raised an alarm and the accused person took to his heels but was arrested by some people in the community and handed over to the police, who after investigations charged him with the offence.
