Sagnarigu Assembly inaugurates Girls Model School

The Sagnarigu District Assembly in the Northern Region has inaugurated a Girls’ Demonstration School at Choggu to help promote education of girls in the area.

Currently, 30 girls have been enrolled at the facility.

Madam Mariam Iddrisu, District Chief Executive for Sagnarigu, who inaugurated the school, said the Chief of Sagnarigu had allocated a seven-acre land to the Assembly to construct a structure with necessary facilities to serve as a permanent place for the Girls Demonstration School.

She said the new facility to be constructed soon would comprise of a classroom structure, dormitory, ICT centre and teachers’ quarters to encourage girls to go to school and curtail the high school dropout among girls in the area.

Madam Iddrisu told teachers and pupils of the school that a lot was expected of them noting that besides the regular curriculum of the school, the girls would also go through leadership skills and training to prepare them for future leadership roles.

She encouraged pupils to take their lessons seriously emphasising that “You are the future leaders of this country but you have to start it now so that one day all of you can occupy very important positions in the country.”

She said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was gender sensitive and a crusader of girl-child education, the reason why the Assembly attached importance to the Girls Model School concept.

zr Alhassan Mustapha, Sagnarigu District Director of Education tasked teachers of the school to do their best for the benefit of the pupils and the entire district.

Madam Tongo Stellah, Headmistress of the School said efforts would be made to give the girls the needed education they required, adding the girls would also be trained to be vocal at all times.
