Farmer jailed for stealing gun

Goaso (B/A), July 17, GNA- A circuit court at Goaso in Asutifi District of Brong Ahafo has sentenced a 32-year-old farmer to three years’ imprisonment for stealing a gun belonging to a palm wine tapper. John Tahiru pleaded guilty.

Police Inspector Ben Brew told the court that on January 9 this year, the palm wine tapper who lived at Agravi, a farming community in the district detected the loss of his shotgun from his bedroom.

Through his own investigations, he found out that Tahiru stole the weapon so he reported the matter to the community watch committee whose members searched Tahiru’s premises and found the gun, dismantled and kept in a wooden box.

The Committee members therefore took him together with the gun to the police.
