Winneba University can only take 25% of qualified candidates- VC

Winneba (C/R), July 17, GNA- The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education Winneba, (UEW) Professor Jophus Annamuah-Mensah said on Friday that only 25 percent of qualified candidates who could get admission due to lack of facilities and accommodation He therefore, called for enough support and funding for institutions offering Open, Distance Learning (ODL) to enable more qualified candidates who could not gain admission to universities to obtain university education through distance learning.
Professor Annamuah-Mensah said this at the close of a three-day workshop for West Africa Teacher Training Consortium, organized by the Commonwealth Of Learning (COL) in collaboration with the UEW at Winneba. It was attended by 25 participants from Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Cameroon.
Meanwhile the participants who were educators from higher institutions in the Sub-region formed a consortium and came out with a resolution that called on the governments of member countries where ODL is not yet officially introduced to put appropriate structures in place to enable it effectively take-off.
