Trader sentenced to 24 months imprisonment

Sekondi July 13, GNA – A District Magistrate’s Court in Sekondi has sentenced Kwasi Nkokobio, a trader at Abuesi, to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour for threatening to kill a fisherman. The court also imposed a fine of 500,000 cedis on Nkokobio for causing damage to the building of the fisherman, Kobina Essilfie or in default six months imprisonment in hard labour.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge of threat of death and not guilty to causing unlawful damage.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere said on July 1 this year, the accused went to the house of Essilfie when he and his family were asleep.

Sgt Okyere said the accused knocked at the window of Essilfie to allow him into his room but he refused and Nkokobio threatened to kill Essilfie if he did yield to his request.

Sgt Okyere said the accused broke the windows of the room and part of the wall with an iron bar to enable him have access to the room. Essilfie and his family managed to leave the room and took refuge in the room of a friend nearby.
