Local GPRTU Chairman appeals for completion of road

Awutu-Bontrase (C/R), July 12, GNA – The Chairman of the Obrachire branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Alhaji Abdul Razak, popularly called “Unless God”, has appealed to the Government to ensure that work resumed on the Obrachire-Awutu Beraku road.

According to Alhaji Razak, the project was abandoned after the first phase of the contract, which covered about 10 kilometres from Awutu-Obrachire to Bontrase, was completed 10 months ago.

He said recent rains had worsened the condition of the remaining stretch of the road which links Bontrase and Awutu-Beraku, making it very difficult for motorists to reach the area.

Alhaji Razak said if did not resume immediately, harvesting and carting of cassava from Bontrase, Awutu-Ayiresu, Mmfadwe, and other communities along the road to the Ayensu starch factory at Awutu-Bawjiase would be hampered.

He said the people had massively responded to government’s call to farmers to feed the factory, but the bad nature of the road could be an impediment. 12 July 04
