Fulani Herdsmen gun down man, 28 in the Eastern region

A 28-year-old man, identified as Yaw Ketewa has been gunned down at Kwahu-Dwerebease in the Eastern region in what the locals suspect to be a renewed attack on the community by armed wielding Fulani Herdsmen.

The incident occurred Thursday evening around 8:30 pm when the deceased was returning on a motorbike from Onyemso.

The deceased was ambushed and shot twice by his assailant on the outskirts of the Dwerebease community near the Teachers Quarters. Residents who heard the gunshots and a shout for help rushed to the scene where the deceased was seen in a pool of blood and was immediately rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

The assailant is yet to be arrested.

The Assembly member for Dwerebease-Onyemso Electoral Area, Umar Abdul Raman, in an interview with Starr News’ Eastern regional Correspondent Kojo Ansah that, the incident occurred close to the teachers quarters at the outskirts of the Community but the teachers were afraid to come out due to the gunshots.

He said the Fulani herdsmen who have been terrorizing residents in the area for years are the principal suspects.

He added that the incident suggests a renewed attack on the community by Fulani herdsmen in the area creating fear among teachers and Nurses in the community which may compel them to desert the community again.

Dwerebease is notorious for Fulani menace. Clashes between residents and Fulani Herdsmen trace back to almost a decade with several lives lost.

Just last week, the Fulani herdsmen reportedly attacked a nurse at the Dwerebease CHPs compound and attempted to abscond with a motorbike belonging to the facility but it was later retrieved from the bush.

The deceased left behind a pregnant wife and two children.
