29,000 children targeted for immunisation in Offinso

Offinso (Ashanti Region), 3 Nov. ’98

The Offinso District Health directorate plans to immunise more than 29,000 children against polio in this year’s national immunisation programme in the district. Dr Joseph Oduro, Offinso District Director of Health Services, who said this at Offinso, said to ensure success of the programme, 600 health volunteers have been trained to undertake the exercise. He said 150 points have been established to prevent mothers from walking long distances to immunisation centres. Dr Oduro said the most targeted areas are the remotest parts of the district where most people lack basic medical facilities as well as transportation problems. He appealed to chiefs, assembly and unit committee members and the general public to get actively involved in the programme fixed for November seven and December 19 to achieve maximum success.
