Kumasi, July 10, GNA – An urgent appeal has been made to the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) to devise more effective strategies to calm down the tension and growing anger of persons appearing before it in recent days.
Reverend Togbe S.K. Fugah, Chairman of Voltarian Co-ordinating Committee (VCC), who made the appeal, observed that the tension and anger shown by some persons now testifying at the Commission does not augur well for the proceedings.
Rev. Togbe Fugah made the appeal at a meeting of Voltarian women entrepreneurs group at Anloga in Kumasi on Thursday.
“The NRC has made a lot of positive gains since its inception and should therefore not allow tension, anger, accusations and counter-accusations to erode its gains as it winds up,” he added. Rev Togbe Fugah advised that since the mission of the NRC was to reconcile and heal wounds of people who had suffered atrocities, it was crucial that those testifying before it should be counselled. “They should be counselled on the need for tolerance, comportment and decency in their language at the sittings”, he added.
Rev Togbe Fugah called on Ghanaians to work assiduously through regular prayers and decent behaviour to help maintain the peace and democracy in the country.
“Ghana has been a role model and an inspiration to other countries in sub-Sahara Africa as far as peace and democracy is concerned and as such, we owe it a moral duty to sustain and further enhance growth of these attributes”, he stated.
Madam Alice Dzidzienyo, President of the Voltarian women entrepreneurs group, entreated businesswomen not to work in isolation of each other but rather, they should form co-operatives to enable them have easy access to financial assistance.
