The Head of Security of the Electoral Commission (EC), Major S.K. Ayim (rtd), has denied being a card-bearing member of the NPP. It is unfortunate for a party like the NDC and its flagbearer, Prof. Mills to concoct such a serious allegation which has no iota of truth about me?, he said in interview in Accra.
It will be recalled that at a press conference on July 1, 2004, Prof Mills accused the EC of appointing Mayor Ayim whom he claimed was a card-bearing member and a ward chairman of the NPP as the head of security.
He also alleged that although the chief director of the EC, Mr. Mr. Kwame Damuah Agyeman, had attained the age 60, because he ?has long been suspected to having pro NPP sympathies, has been retained on contract by the President.
The major said he had neither attended any function of any political party nor had held any position in the NPP since he was discharged from the military, adding that ?I was employed at the EC based on my merit, through the normal process and not because am an NPP card-bearing member as being peddled around. ?Are they out there to destroy my job and discredit my hard won reputation? he asked
