Ghana and Mauritius hold bilateral talks

Accra, July 2, GNA – Ghana and Mauritius on Friday held bilateral talks at the Castle, Osu to find ways of improving relations between the two countries.

It formed part of the four-day State visit to Ghana by Sir Anerood Jugnuath, Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Island of Mauritius.

President John Agyekum Kufuor said the reciprocal visit by Sir Anerood had deepened the relations between Ghana and Mauritius. He said: “The relations has reached a plateau to be raised to higher levels.”

Sir Anerood said cordial relationship had existed between both countries due to their commitment to democracy and good governance. He said the Mauritius Government had confidence in the private sector and had always been a facilitator in promoting businesses, protecting public institutions and infrastructure to enhance development in Mauritius.

Sir Anerood said Mauritius had investments in some African countries, namely Madagascar, Cote D’Ivoire, Mozambique, Senegal, The Gambia and would endeavour to ensure that such investment took place in Ghana due to the potentials and favourable investment climate in the country. Both Heads of State would inaugurate Berlin Textiles Company, a Ghana-Mauritius partnership at Adjabeng in Accra on Friday afternoon. The Company established under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between both countries was expected to start the production of T-Shirts and Jeans for export.

The visit is reciprocal to the one by President Kufuor to the island in May last year.
