St. Theresa’s society reaches out to 500 students

Over five hundred students in the Afram Plains have benefited from a donation worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to three schools.

The donation formed part of a yearly charity responsibility of the St. Theresa of the child Jesus society at St. Catharine parish in Burma Camp.

The items included stationeries such as 1,680 pieces of note 1 exercise books, 100 different subjects of primary school text books, boxes of mathematical instruments, boxes of pens, boxes of pencils, boxes of erasers, among others.

The president of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus society, Opaine Esme Odakor Aboagye presented the items on behalf of the society.

She said the donation was to help students in deprived communities in the Afram Plains to encourage them not to give up on education.

She was unhappy with the lack of funds and assistance available to the future leaders of Ghana with emphasis on hinter and deprived communities.

Rev. Fr. Andrew Evans Okwan a Kumasi Archdiocesan priest on missionary work in the Donkorkrom Apostolic Vicariate received the items on behalf of the over 500 students. He rendered an appreciation to the society for the kind gesture shown towards the students.

He said the items will go a long way to help the students focus on their education and also relieve the parents of some burdens.

Fr. Okwan said most parents in the beneficiary communities can hardly afford exercise books for their children. He went on to say that in some families siblings share one exercise book. `
