Journalists decide

Accra, (Greater Accra) 16 Oct. ’98 Members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) will go to the polls on November 11 and 2 December to elect regional and national officers. Mr Mawusi Afele, GJA Election Officer, said the dates for the elections were fixed by the National Executive in accordance with the GJA constitution, adding that only fully paid-up members qualify to vote. Positions to be contested in the regional vote are Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer while national positions to be contested are President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, Treasurer and two Executive members.

The National Consultative Committee of the GJA at its meeting on October two decided that all contestants should pay non-refundable deposits. Contestants for the position of Regional Chairman will pay 20,000 cedis while contestants for other positions in the regions will pay 10,000 cedis.

For the National poll, Presidential contestants will deposit 100,000 cedis, Vice-President 80,000 cedis while contestants for other positions will pay 60,000 cedis.

All contestants should be fully paid-up members. GRi
