Mampong Municipal Assembly expands access to education

The Asante-Mampong Municipal Assembly is taking deliberate steps to expand access to education through the construction of more classroom structures.

Mr. Thomas Appiah-Kubi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said creating adequate space for effective teaching and learning had been made a major priority.

In line with this, it was already building a block of eight classrooms for the Bunoso M/A primary, a six-unit classroom block with office, computer laboratory and washrooms for Patase-Sesiase-Kokoben M/A basic school and a four-unit classroom block with office and store for the Dwaaho basic school.

Speaking after an inspection of the structures, he said these would be ready before the close of the year.

He used the occasion to announce financial assistance package for 133 selected students in senior high schools (SHS) and tertiary institutions.

They were going to receive a total of GH?30,000.00 to take care of their school needs.

Mr. Appiah-Kubi also hinted of the re-start of construction works on three abandoned Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.

These are sited at Bunoso, Atonsuagya and Sukruwa.

The MCE added that the assembly was using internally-generated revenue and part of its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to get these completed.

He praised the assembly members, the heads of department, the chiefs and unit committees for working together to bring development to the people.

Nana Yaw Adade Brenya, the chief of Bunoso, appealed to the assembly to build a teachers accommodation to end the situation where teachers had been making a daily round trip of about 24 kilometres to teach in the community.

They are forced to live in Mampong because they cannot find decent accommodation at the place.
