Work on Sunyani Hospital to start again

Sunyani (Brong Ahafo Region) 15 Oct. ’98 Work on the new Sunyani Regional Hospital is to re-start soon. The Minister of Health-designate, Samuel Nuamah-Donkor, announced this at a site meeting with traditional rulers, contractors as well as staff of his Ministry at Sunyani.

Construction of the 240-bed hospital started in October 1996 but was suspended in December last year, due to what the Minister described as “problems of cash flow”. Mr. Nuamah-Donkor underscored the Government’s Commitment towards the completion of the hospital and said as the region with the fastest growing population, it is the duty of the government to provide the necessary health care. The Construction Manager of International Hospitals Group, Contractors of the Project, John Quinn, said the Company now sees its way clear to enable it recommence the work. This is because the problems which resulted in the temporary suspension of work have been substantially resolved. He however, said that as a result of the break, the completion period will be affected. The project is estimated to cost over 100 billion cedis. GRi
