Bolgatanga (Upper East) 15 Oct ’98 The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Donald Adabre, has inaugurated the Regional Disaster Committee and four technical sub-committees at a ceremony in Bolgatanga. The sub-committees are, Food Security, Epidemic, Environmental and Man-Made Disasters.
Mr Adabre underlined the importance of making disaster information available to the people and said if they know the consequences of their action on the environment, people would be prepared to adopt attitudes that would pose no danger to their lives.
He said the volunteer corps would operate as watchdog committees, while in the first and second cycle schools, emphasis would be laid on drug abuse, alcoholism, teenage pregnancy and AIDS.
Mr Dokurugu described the issue of drug abuse in schools as a battle that must be won and appealed for logistics to enable NADMO fight the war. GRi
