‘I was not fighting, I was protecting my boss’ – Deputy Roads Minister

Anthony Karbo, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways has debunked reports that he was engaged in a brawl with some individuals over the East Legon- Spintex Road tunnel.

The Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta was present at the site of construction to discuss with the representatives of the companies situated at the location, on their options for relocation.

However the situation turned sour when the workers of the Atpage Limited and Ottis Equipement put up a fierce resistance that led the altercation.

Anthony Karbo narrated the incident, stating the clash was a result of him (Karbo) defending his boss from the irate workers of the companies. Mr. Karbo said, any individual or company that ‘sets up shop’ along the road is deemed a squatter, as that corridor belongs to the Ghana Highway Authority.

He stated the Minister arrived at the site to speak to the owners of the excavator company and asked them to move their machines from the construction site within two weeks.

However this allegedly did not sit well with the machinery owners.

“ After the Minister made those comments, it didn’t go well with the owners. I don’t know what came over the man but he started attacking, insulting and assaulting the Minister. It’s impossible for an ordinary citizen to attack a Minister without a reaction from the Police. The bodyguard of the Minister invited the [East Legon] Police who arrested the people, we have nothing to do with it anymore,” Mr. Karbo narrated.

The East Legon police is reportedly investigating the matter, and three persons have been detained in connection with the incident.
