Kufuor says he is better equipped to win 2,000 elections

Yendi (Northern Region) , 12 Oct. ’98 Mr John Agyekum Kufuor, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer for the 1996 presidential elections has said he took only three months’ campaigning to win 43 per cent of votes in the elections.

“Now that I have about two years ahead, I am sure of touring all the 200 constituencies to win the year 2000 elections for the NPP”, Mr Kufuor, who was addressing a rally of NPP executives and supporters at Yendi, therefore, urged those who would attend the Party’s congress at Sunyani on October 24 to elect him to lead the Party.

Mr Kufuor had earlier paid a courtesy call on Ya-Na Yakubu Andani the second, Paramount Chief of the Dagomba Traditional Area, at his palace in Yendi.

The Ya-Na called on Ghanaians to elect people capable of leading the nation towards peace, harmony and development. “Politics is a very difficult task throughout the world and it must be pursued with due care”, Ya Na cautioned.

He said Ghanaians need to pray for peace and live in harmony so that they can make a good choice in the 2000 presidential elections.

Mr Kufuor thanked Ya-Na and stressed that the nation needs the better leadership the NPP wants to offer. Alhaji Mustapha Ali, member of parliament for Gukpegu/Sabonjida constituency said Ghana is “economically sick”, and Mr Kufuor “is the man who can solve its problems through pragmatic approaches”. He said there is peace and harmony among the aspirants and urged all supporters to emulate them, and contribute to make the party stronger to win the next elections.

Alhaji Ali advised the people to vote for the NPP and Mr Kufuor in the next elections in order for them to get the development they deserve.

Mr Kufuor later toured Yendi, Zabzugu, Chereponi, Saboba and Gushiegu constituencies. GRi
