Tarkwa, (W/R) June 15, GNA – Dr Kofi Kesse Marfo, Commissioner of Police in-charge of Operations, at the weekend urged political parties to abide by the Public Order Act 491, which enjoins political parties to inform the Police at least five days before holding rallies. He also urged political parties to refrain from employing “Machomen” to harass political opponents during electioneering campaigns and other political activities.
Dr Marfo, who speaking at a meeting with representatives of political parties in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency at Tarkwa, advised politicians to move away from “Politics of insults” since it could incense the people and result in bitterness and violence. Mr Emmanuel Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive, appealed to media personnel to avoid abusive and provocative language in their reportage and reminded them that they were obliged to unite the country for development.
The Representatives of the political parties commended the Police for meeting them to discuss issues that could assist in ensuring free, fair and violent-free elections in December. They promised to ensure that electioneering campaigns prior to the polls would be conducted peacefully.
