Visiting US scholar lauds establishment of computer laboratories

Winneba (C/R), June 15, GNA – A Fulbright scholar from the University of Ohio in the United State of America, Dr. Sandra Turner, on Monday commended the government for establishing computer laboratories at Secondary Schools.

She said this would help the students to develop the spirit of becoming computer technicians, computer technologists and above all, take over the mantle of building computers in the next few years. She was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Monday at the University of Education, Winneba at Winneba.

Dr Turner who was at the University of Education, Winneba on a ten- month “Exchange” programme as a lecturer in Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Mathematics, commended the students for their co-operation, good conduct and hard work during her stay.

She mentioned the lack of adequate computers at the laboratory as the only problem facing the University, adding that out of the total number of 88 students offering ICT and Mathematics, the laboratory had only 30 computers.

This made it difficult for the students during lecturers, she said. Dr Turner disclosed that the University of Ohio had planned a series of programmes in the various courses to help boost academics at the University of Education, Winneba.

She said currently, there were over 50 Ghanaian students at the University of Ohio offering various courses in computer sciences and other subjects.
