Stop the propaganda;1 District 1 Factory is a serious business – Government

The National Coordinator of government’s One-District-One-Factory project Gifty Ohene-Konadu has dismissed as ridiculous claims that former president John Mahama must be acknowledged for laying the foundation for the yet to be constructed Ekumfi Fruit Processing Company.

According to the former Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, Abeiku Crentsil, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) must credit the erstwhile administration for establishing the foundation for the factory.

“They cannot take the credit without acknowledging John Dramani Mahama’s administration because we started the whole thing and unfortunately they happen to be in power…so they are trying to take the credit,” he told Starr News’ Ibrahim Alhassan Tuesday.

But in her reaction Tuesday on Starr Today with Benard Nasara Saibu, Ohene-Konadu rebuffed the former legislator’s claims as false, saying, “They should stop the propaganda. This is a serious business [and] we are not looking at colors.

“It is for everybody, every Ghanaian; so we shouldn’t bring politics into this at all because all manner of people troop to my office – minority MPs, everybody. So why all these? They should rather embrace it and together we build Ghana.”

President Akufo-Addo will on Friday, August 25, 2017 launch the government’s flagship policy known as ‘One District One Factory’ at Ekumfi in the Central region.

It will include a sod-cutting to begin the construction of the Ekumfi Fruit Processing Company which will process pineapples for the local and international markets. Currently, the company cultivates the fruit and seeks to expand its operations into processing.

“The introduction of the policy has motivated us to speed up and implement our plans of processing the fruits into various other products,” Mr. Daniel Kwarteng, Managing Director of the company stated.

The policy is aimed at fulfilling a pledge by President Akufo-Addo to see the actualization of the industrialization of Ghana as part of the “transformation process he envisages for the country”.
