LEGON, JUNE 8, GNA – The membership of the Teachers And Educational Workers Union (TEWU) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) from the Universities of Ghana have on Tuesday, called off their ten-day strike action.
This was made possible as a result of a letter received from the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Akoto Osei informing them of the decision to meet their demands.
The letter stated that, the Ministry had approved and restored the Relativity Ratio for all the Universities in Ghana.
The effective date for payment have been shifted backward from January 1, to March 1, 2004. Workers of the two Unions were therefore, not very happy with the effective date since the technical committee on salary set up by the Universities initially agreed that the effective date should be January 1, 2004.
Meanwhile, all the executive members of TEWU/FUSSAG in the Universities of Ghana have been summoned to meet the Committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC) at Winneba on Wednesday to discuss the dates for payment of the new salary, the back-pay and also find out why the effective date of payment was shifted from January 1, to March 1, 2004.
