GHS to punish officials who sell supposed HIV cure drugs at A.R.T Centres

Director General of the Ghana Health service, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare has cautioned persons living with the HIV virus to desist from chasing drugs that are being advertised as cure for the disease adding no cure has been found yet.

According to him, his office will take it upon themselves to make known to the public if a cure is discovered for the disease.

He, however, revealed that his outfit was going to punish officials of the service who engage in the selling of these assumed cure drugs at A.R.T centres.

“Everyone who is involved in this unethical practice is hereby advised to stop it. I wish to state categorically that anyone who acts in defiance of this warning will be dealt with according to the rules governing their profession and Ghana health service code of conduct and anybody found will be dealt with without fear or favour”. He said

He was speaking at a media briefing in Accra today organised by the Ghana Aids commission to debunk rumours that certain drugs being advertised in the media had the capability of curing HIV.

Meanwhile, the Head of Herbal Medicine at the Food and Drugs Authority, Mr. Emmanuel Yaw Kwarteng is pleading with the media to cross check from their office if they have given clearance to any individual who wants to advertise their drugs especially supposed drugs believed to be the cure for HIV.

“I plead with the media to consult our offices before airing certain adverts like ones that suggest that someone has a cure to HIV. I know it is the source of your income but I plead with you to consider the good of the public”.
