Jomoro GNATLAS clean up health facilities

Half-Assini (W/R), June 6, GNA – About 100 members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers’ Ladies Association (GNATLAS) in the Jomoro district on Saturday undertook a cleanup exercise in some health facilities in the district.

They cut down overgrown bushes, scrubbed gutters and culverts and removed cobwebs at the premises of the Half-Assini Government Hospital, the Samenye Health Post, and the Elubo and Tikobo Number one clinics. Miss Edwina Anglow Kofie, district Vice Chairperson of the association, said the exercise was to fight filth and promote good health.

She asked members of the GNATLAS to “throw their weight” behind their men counterparts to enhance the image of the teaching profession, adding that, “the time when the kitchen was considered the best place for women is over”.

Miss Kofie, who is the Executive Director of Women Aids Control Organisation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, said her organisation had organised series of workshops for a number of teachers to enable them to sensitise women on reproductive health and other related issues. She advised GNATLAS members not to be concerned with teaching and learning alone but they should also help to create healthcare awareness especially among women and the girl-child. 06 Jun. 04
