Osu Childrens Home Congested

The Osu Children?s Home in Accra is congested, reveals Miss Comfort Naa Borkai Addy, the Home?s Welfare Officer.

She said the Home, which was meant to accommodate about 65 children, now housed about 130 children.

Consequently, se said, the children were facing many health problems, and were prone to catching communicable diseases.

Miss Addy revealed this to the Times in Accra at the weekend when member of abundant Glory Ministry International (AGMI) made a presentation to the Home of assorted items worth ?8 million. The gifts included rice, soap, cooking oil, bread and clothing. The donation formed part of activities marking AGMI?s tenth anniversary.

Miss Addy said the children in the Home were aged between 9 days and 18 years, but that the majority of them were in the 3-to-10 year age group. She said the children were either orphans, abandoned or abused, and were typically referred to the Home by police stations or social welfare organisations. She said their circumstances were such that they could not be turned away.

Miss Addy, therefore, appealed to individuals and organisations to come to the children?s aid.
