Teachers, call for fairness

Goaso (B/A) June 5, GNA- Teachers in the Asunafo district in Brong Ahafo have appealed to the government to place all newly-promoted teachers on the correct scales and ensure prompt payment of their salary arrears.

They said rampant delays, coupled with non-payment of the arrears had dampened their spirit and enthusiasm in the profession. The teachers made the appeal at an open forum at Goaso. It was organized by the Asunafo district office of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to present a cheque for nine million cedis to four teachers who suffered losses through fire disasters in November and December last year.

They also called for the restoration of the Cap 30 scheme to enable teachers to enjoy appropriate benefits on retirement.

Presenting the cheque, Mr. Wilfred Duku-Dengah, district GNAT Secretary, gave assurance that the Association would not relent in addressing basic problems facing teachers.
