Denying Mac Manu entry into Kenya primitive – Nana Obiri Boahen

The Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has described as primitive the denial of Mr Peter Mac Manu, a leading member of the NPP entry into Kenya to observe the elections.

The 2016 Campaign Manager of the NPP was denied entry into Kenya as he led a group of election observers from the Democratic Union of Africa (DUA) to monitor the August 8, 2017 polls in that country.

Information suggests that his denial was in relation to being the Chair of DUA, an umbrella body of political parties in Africa of which some opposition parties in Kenya belong.

Reports suggest authorities in Kenya think he is on a mission for a regime change beyond election observer duties and his denial is to prevent any undue influence of the election by the international community.

But speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM on Monday August 7, Mr Boahen said: “They said they will not allow Peter Mac Manu to go there and it is a serious indication that things are not going on well. How do you accuse the NPP in Ghana that they want to rig the elections? This is a primitive way of handling matters ongoing in Kenya; we need to be serious about it.”
