No religion is founded on violence – Prophet Adofo

Offinso (Ash), June.2, GNA – Primate S.K. Adofo, Spiritual Head of the Brotherhood Church has said that no religion is founded on violence.

All religions he said, were built on peace and that religious violence is perpetrated by a few individuals.

Addressing a convention of the Kumasi Diocese of the Church at Offinso at the week-end, Primate Adofo said the impressions that had been created in the minds of a section of the society that some religions were born out of violence was therefore, erroneous. The three-day convention, which was used for stock taking of the past activities of the diocese, offering of prayers for the peace, security and stability of the nation was also used to inaugurate the Offinso branch of the Church.

Primate Adofo advised Ghanaians not only to embrace and accept religion, but also strive to let their various beliefs reflect in their lives and all their endeavours.

He said merely belonging to a religious faith without applying the beliefs to bring about positive transformation of people and society at large is meaningless.

Mr J.Y. Oduro, the Offinso District Chief Executive, observed that the infusion of ethnicity and chieftaincy into politics has often been the cause of disturbance of the peace, especially in the election year. The DCE therefore advised the different ethnic groups and traditional authorities to resist any temptation by politicians to influence them with financial abd material gifts in order to forment troubles before, during and after the elections.

Nana Wiafe Akenten 111, Offinsohene entreated the church to play a more pro-active role in the campaign against the HIV/AIDS menace and cease perceiving the campaign as the responsibility of only the government.

He said their active involvement in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic was crucial, since churches too stand to loose their membership if the menace is unchecked and continues to spread at the present rate.
