Emergency Services at 37 Military Hospital Suspended from June 4 for Fumigation

The 37 Military Hospital in Accra is set to temporarily shut down its Medical Emergency Unit from Wednesday, June 4 to Saturday, June 14, 2025, as part of a scheduled fumigation exercise aimed at maintaining high hygiene and safety standards.

The hospital announced the move in a statement issued by Lieutenant R.K. Kotoku, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces. According to the statement, the closure is part of the hospital’s routine sanitation programme to ensure a clean and secure environment for both patients and healthcare workers.

During this 10-day period, members of the public are being advised to seek emergency medical care at other health facilities across the city.

However, the hospital has confirmed that the Trauma Surgical Emergency Unit will remain open, and arrangements have been made to continue offering emergency care to entitled individuals, particularly military personnel and their families.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely apologise,” the statement read. “We appreciate the public’s cooperation and patience as we undertake this essential health and safety measure.”

The 37 Military Hospital is one of Ghana’s leading referral health facilities and plays a crucial role in providing both civilian and military medical services. The hospital emphasized that the fumigation is a proactive step to prevent pest infestations and maintain public health standards.
