President has nothing to gain sacking EC Boss – Eugene Arhin

Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin has downplayed claims the President is determined to have the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Charlotte Osei sacked.

He disclosed on Accra-based Okay Fm that President Nana Akufo-Addo has nothing to benefit in encouraging such an idea, calling on the public to disregard the propaganda being fueled by the minority in that regard.

“What benefit will the President gain in sacking the EC chairperson? Don’t forget that it was during her tenure the President won the elections and experience counts. It is just propaganda the NDC is fueling just to prosecute an agenda. There is nothing like that”, he revealed.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Isaac Adongo believes there are unseen hands in the current brouhaha, manipulating the petition to have the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Charlotte Osei removed from office.

He wondered why the petitioners are failing to show their faces, if that is not the case, and are only hiding behind a lawyer to have the EC Commissioner removed from office, indicating that it is a calculated attempt by some elements within the current government to yank her off.

“Why are the petitioners refusing to show their identities? I am sure there are some unseen hands in the entire petition issue. If they claim to have a case, they must show their faces”, he advised.

According to him, they cannot be categorized under whistle blowers but they are petitioners whose identities must be shielded from the defendant who has been accused of wrongdoing.

But Eugene Arhin disclosed that the petitioners are only working within the remits of the law.
