Complement government’s efforts of controlling malaria- Dr Hussein

Kuntanase (Ash), May 28, GNA- Ghanaians have been asked to complement government’s efforts at controlling malaria very common in every hospital or health centre in the country.

Dr Kofi Hussein, the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Director of Health Services, said this they could do by keeping their environment clean at all times.

He said if people would desilt choked gutters in front of their homes, clear the bush around them and possibly sleep in insecticide mosquito nets, they would be able to reduce malaria cases, save money for themselves and government.

Dr Hussein was addressing artisans, dressmakers, hairdressers, school children and other professional associations who undertook a three-hour clean-up exercise at Kuntanase and ended up at the district hospital on Tuesday.

They desilted choked gutters, cleared bushes in the town, scrubbed the various parts of the hospital as part of activities to climax the Constitutional Week, organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

He said the battle against malaria could not be fought by only health personnel but by all including chiefs, opinion leaders, unit committee members, assembly members and indeed everybody in the society. Dr Hussein said regular clean-up exercises could help destroy most breeding places of mosquitoes since it was always mosquitoes that could breed mosquitoes.

He advised the youth against contracting HIV/AIDS by refraining from early and indiscriminate sex.
