New Juaben Municipality undertakes projects

Koforidua, May 25, GNA – The New Juaben Municipal Assembly had undertaken development projects costing about six billion cedis since the Kufuor administration took office three and half years ago. Fifty out of the 101 projects had been completed while the rest are at various stages of completion.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA at Koforidua, the Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Kwasi Adjei Boateng, said the municipality benefited from 28 projects under the District Assembly Common Fund worth about five billion cedis, eleven projects under the HIPC Initiative at the total cost of 1.598 billion cedis, 26 projects costing about 20 billion cedis under the Road Fund and six under the GETFund.

On donor funded projects, he mentioned the World Bank’s funding of the paving of the Koforidua taxi rank, European Union’s 10-seater place of convenience at Koforidua, rehabilitation of the Jumapo Methodist JSS block and construction of a three-unit classroom blocks for the Asokore Methodist and SDA JSS.

The British Department for International Development’s (DFID) rehabilitated the 43-kilometre Koforidua-Supreso road and the QUIPS funding of the cradling of pavilion classrooms and construction of KVIP latrine for Trom, while DANIDA funded sanitation projects in a number of basic schools he added.

According to Nana Adjei Boateng, the New Juaben South (Koforidua) constituency benefited from 57 various projects including 24 roads while New Juaben had 26 including two roads.

Nana Boateng added that the two areas continued to enjoyed routine road maintenance, streetlights, refuse containers, and hand-dug wells. The Assembly had also embarked on the a programme to assist PTAs with building materials to rehabilitate distressed basic schools in addition to the supply of school uniforms, bags and supplementary books to needy pupils.
