Open Box donates learning materials to GCAO Homework Club in Toronto

The Ghanaian-Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO) has come far with its programs to better the lot of Ghanaians living in and around the Toronto Metropolitan Area in Ontario-Canada.

One of such programs is the establishment of Homework Club two years ago to help students in the community with their homework and also to improve their reading and writing as well as math skills. The success of the program has been tremendous.

As support for and approval of the good efforts by the GCAO, some individuals, businesses and churches in the community have extended their hospitality and goodwill towards the Homework Club. Some have already provided accommodation, transportation services and other logistics to the ‘learning Club’.

On Sunday, July 15, 2017, a Ghanaian businesswoman, Ms Helen Hamilton of Open Box based in Scarborough, a suburb of Toronto, donated 8 boxes of assorted pens and a number of colourful binders to the Homework Club. The presentation was made through Mr. Steven Agyekumhene (DJ) and Madam Sophia Aboagye (Proprietress) of the Sankofa Radio of the Canadian Multicultural Radio (CMR 101.3 FM) in Toronto.

The items were received by Messers Eyiah, Duodu and Yaw Obeng of the GCOA who were at the premises of Sankofa Radio to promote the launching of the Ghanaian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce (GCCC) and the Diaspora Engagement Think Tank (DETT) in Toronto on July 29, 2017.

The GCAO thanked the donor and promised to put the items to good use for the students enrolled with the Homework Club to enhance their learning skills.
