TEWU/FUSSAG threatening strike action

Legon, May 20, GNA – The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) in the various Universities are likely to embark on a strike action to demand for the payment of their recent salary increases agreed with the Committee of Vice Chancellors (CVC) a couple of months ago.

Speaking during a joint meeting held on Wednesday at the University of Ghana, Legon, Mr Peter Lumor, Chairman of the Legon branch of TEWU said only the salaries of Senior Members of the Universities of Ghana had been approved by the government.

According to him, the CVC, which approved the technical committee’s report on salaries of the Senior Staff and Junior Staff, has failed to follow up at the Ministries for payment to be effected to them. Mr Lumor said the situation had created tension in the country’s universities and warned that TEWU and FUSSAG would hold a joint meeting on Monday to take a firm decision on the next action to be taken to ensure that members were paid their monies.
