Four to be tried for armed robbery

Tema, May 19, GNA- Four persons suspected to be armed robbers are to appear before a Fast Track court, charged with conspiracy and robbery. The pleas of Isaac Osei, aged 21, labourer, Paa Nii Ampe, 27, welder, Philip Yaw Mireku, 24, mason and Charles Abass 42, security man, were not taken, and were remanded into custody when they appeared before a circuit court in Tema on Wednesday.

DSP Robert Aganiba told the court that Mireku who has jumped bail is being sought for to face trial.

He said on May 6, 2001, at about 0230 hours, armed robbers numbering about 10 attacked the complainant at house number B/25 at Baatsona in Accra.

He said the robbers who jumped over the fence wall into the house, forced the main gate opened and gained access into the rooms.

The robbers who were armed with cutlasses, guns and other offensive weapons made away with a bag containing 30 pieces of wrist watches, 3,600 US dollars cash and other vital documents of the complainant. DSP Aganiba said a house help who hid under a dinning table at the hall identified Isaac Osei who usually bought iced water from their house and had him arrested.
