Barber 17, Jailed for Causing Harm

A community tribunal sitting at Kade has sentenced a 17 year old barber, Isaac Abrokwa, to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for causing harm to a policeman. Abrokwa pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced on his own plea.

Prosecuting Detective Inspector E.K. Otchere, told the tribunal, chaired by Mr. Naldwyn E. Essandoh, that on June, 15, some staff of the revenue mobilization team of the Kwaebibirem district assembly went to Kusi on official duties.

Inspector Otchere said Abrokwa, who was barbering someone, was approached by the personnel to pay his monthly tax of 1,500 which was in arrears for six months. The tribunal was told that two of his scissors were seized when he failed to pay up the money. Not happy with the action of the officers, Abrokwa started arguing with them and suddenly took a stone and hit Mr. Alex Apalu, one of the staff, on the ribs. Police Cpl. Isaac Adjornor, who accompanied the team, attempted to cool down Abrokwa but he was also hit on the head with a stone resulting in a deep cut. Inspector Otchere said the policman bled profusely and with the assistance of some people around Abrokwa was arrested and sent to the Akwatia police station where he was charged with the offence. gri
