Agona Nsaba (C/R), May 14, GNA – A severe water shortage has hit Agona Nsaba and Agona Duakwa, both in the Agona District as a result of the bursting of the main pipeline, which serves the two towns from Agona Swedru.
Mr Dennis Armah-Frimpong, assemblyman for Nsaba Salem who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Nsaba said the situation was unbearable as residents of the two towns; especially pupils and students walk long distances to fetch water from the nearest rivers and streams.
Mr Armah-Frimpong said if the problem was not handled as a matter of urgency, the situation would bring about water-borne diseases, thus leading to the outbreak of an epidemic. He appealed to the Swedru District office of the Ghana Water Company (GWC) to help repair the damage in time to forestall any disaster.
At the Nsaba Presbyterian Secondary School, the headmaster, Mr Sam Kwamina-Ansa told the GNA that he had reported the matter to the authorities. Mr Kwamina-Ansa stated, however, that if the situation was not brought under control in the next few days, there would be no alternative than to send the students home.
When contacted, Mr W B Aggrey, Swedru District Manager of the GWC, assured residents in the two affected towns that enough materials for repair works had been brought down from Cape Coast. Mr Aggrey expressed the hope that work on the burst pipeline would start soon to restore the supply of water to the people.
