Two Nigerians arrested for attempting to smuggle ammunition

Aflao, May 13, GNA – Two Nigerians were arrested by the Police at Aflao on Tuesday in connection with a quantity of ammunition intercepted by a Greater-Accra Regional Police Squad.

Chike Alekpe and Fedelis Nwankwo, who were identified as owners of the unspecified quantity of shotgun ammunition had travelled ahead of the goods in a different vehicle, but were traced and arrested. The Police told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday that the two who had intended to smuggle the goods through the Aflao border were residents in Lome.

The Police said last week Alekpe and Nwankwo concealed the ammunition in twines and loaded them onto an Lome bound cargo truck, while they themselves boarded a different vehicle to Aflao.

The Police said following a hint, the Accra police intercepted the ammunition and detained the driver of the truck whose name they did not give.

The Police said one Wisdom Agbodza, at the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Accra-Aflao station followed up to Aflao where he identified Nwankwo and Alekpe leading to their arrest. The two have since been transferred to the Accra Regional Police to assist in further investigations. 13 May 04
