Tempers flare up at assembly meeting

Bibiani (W/R), May 12, GNA – Tempers flared up between a section of the assembly members of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Assembly on the one side and Mr Seidu Adamu, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area on the other, for allegedly discouraging people from paying their premiums for the district’s Mutual Health Insurance Scheme.

The assembly members said the MP was going round some communities to “pollute the minds of the people” by telling them that the scheme would not succeed so they should collect their premiums already paid to the District Mutual Health Insurance Secretariat.

They named some of the communities where the MP had been as Surano, Wankyi, Dominibo Number Two, Subri-Junction, Kojina and Mmerewa. The MP, however, vehemently denied any knowledge about the allegation.

Mr J.B. Addae, Presiding Member of the assembly, described the MP’s action as most unfortunate and said it undermined efforts of the assembly and the government for that matter to ensure quality health delivery for the people at affordable cost.
