GPRTU to introduce travellers’ manifest

Kumasi, May 6, GNA – The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) will soon introduce travellers’ manifest on which names of passengers, their destination and type of luggage would be recorded for easy identification of accident victims.

Mr Aaron Osei Boachie, Ashanti regional vice-chairman of the GPRTU, said this at a drivers’ meeting organised by the union in Kumasi on Wednesday to discuss causes of road accidents and the possible ways preventing them.

He said the travellers’ manifest would be sold to the all branches of the Union for use at various lorry parks. Alhaji Yaw Manu, National Vice-Chairman of the union, said the union will continue to play its role effectively to improve the transport sector and called for unity among all members. He requested that road guards of the union should be brought back to help bring sanity on the roads.

Alhaji Manu called for co-operation between Union executives and members to enhance the work of the GPRTU. Nana Yaw Owusu, Ashanti regional chairman of the Union, urged members to attend meetings regularly and to get actively involved in the activities of the union.

He expressed concern about the proliferation of transport associations in the country and said it partly contributed to indiscipline and lorry accidents.

Sixteen guards in Kumasi were promoted to various grades during the meeting.
