PRESEC Wins Environment Quiz

Accra (Greater Accra) 21 May, ’98

The Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (PRESEC) Legon, today beat four other senior secondary schools in Accra to win a quiz competition on the environment organised by the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology. The quiz formed part of activities marking World Environment Day which falls on June five under the global theme “For life on earth” and the local theme “Your survival depends on your environment. PRESEC scored 40 points followed by Accra Girls Secondary with 27 points. St. Mary’s Secondary School came third with 26 points. followed by St Thoma Aquinas with 25 points and Achimota, 23 points in that order. For their prizes, PRESEC received 100,000 cedis cash and 150,000 cedis book prizes while Accra Girls Secondary got 40,000 cesdis cash and 100,00 cedis book prizes, and St Mary’s Secondary, 30,000 cedis cash and 80,000 cedis book prizes and certificates of participation. Both St Aquinas and Achimota received consolation prizes and certificates. Other programmes to be undertaken to mark the day include a national clean-up exercise on May 30 and a grand durbar slated for Sogakope on June five. Mrs. Adakwa Dadzie of the Environmental Protection Agency, urged schools to inaugurate environmental clubs in order to learn more about the environment. gri
